L'Etat de Californie fait des coupes sombres dans le budget de l'Education (cf l'article que j'avais écrit en mars), la communauté réagit ! On ne se laisse pas abatte, c'est la crise mais tout le monde se mobilise pour sauver ses écoles et c'est un élan formidable !
Il y a 10 jours, c'est une grande surface de la ville qui a reversé 5% de son chiffre d'affaire d'une journée au School District ; aujourd'hui une cinquantaine de restaurants de Cupertino se sont associés pour reverser un pourcentage qui variait de 10 à 50% de leur CA ! c'est pas formidable cela ??
Alors, on avait sélectionné le magasin de pizza du coin et apparemment, nous n'étions pas les seuls car il fallait vraiment la vouloir pour l'obtenir : 40 minutes de queue et une attente ensuite de 30 minutes encore pour déguster une bonne petite pizza ....
Alors c'est vrai, on n'a pas l'habitude, nous français de voir la vie comme cela ! On attends toujours beaucoup de l'Etat qui subventionne, finance etc .. Ici les choses sont différentes, peut être pas toujours égalitaires, mais les gens se bougent, ne se laissent pas abattre .... de quoi réfléchir ...

Their Future Is Now! is a partnership between the parent community, Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation (CEEF) and the District. Their Future Is Now! steps in where state funding leaves off to keep our schools academically strong and nationally competitive.
How Bad Is The Problem?
State budget cuts are threatening the quality of our children's education and their future.If nothing is done, core academic instruction across all grade levels will be impacted. We can expect:
- Lower quality of instruction: We will lose up to 115 highly skilled teachers across kindergarten thru 8th grade, the equivalent of losing 4 schools.
- Disruption to our children's education: Teacher layoffs are done on a seniority basis, regardless of performance or grade level. Remaining teachers will be reshuffled to new grades and new schools throughout the district. That steep adjustment will come at the expensive of our children’s education.
- Reduced academic performance from our children: Primary grades will see a 50% increase in class size. Research shows that students in smaller 1-3 classrooms outperform their larger classroom counterparts on standardized tests; this benefit continues through high school. In fact, increasing to 30 students per class over these 3 years is equal to giving up as much as 14 months of instruction!
What Can I do?
We must act now to protect our children’s future! Contribution to a district-wide fund is the ONLY means to safeguard classroom instruction. School-level fundraising is restricted from hiring teachers. As a district, we must raise $3.0 million by May 15th to preserve high quality education for our children. The time to act is now!
With a contribution of just $375 from each district family - that's about $2 per day of instruction - we can save our excellent school programs together.
